Rectal thermometers are said to be the most accurate type of thermometer in measuring body temperature. A rectal thermometer, either the smallest or the largest rectal thermometer, contains mercury. A medical attendant or a nurse uses rectal thermometer by first shaking the mercury to below the 90 °F mark. But with all these differences, the bottom line is to ensure the proper way of using each kind. Rectal thermometers provide the most accurate reading although they are not always preferred.
